A brief history of the Canadian Pacific Paynesville and Elbow Lake Subdivisions:

06/16/22

This massive viaduct crosses the Clearwater River and Rockwood Avenue near South Haven, at the Wright County line.
Built in 1906, the bridge consists of a large deck girder viaduct, supported by concrete and steel substructures. The bridge is somewhat unusual, since the deck girders are all the same depth.
Large structures like this were common on the Soo Line, particularly to avoid steep grades.
Unfortunately, the bridge is showing some deterioration, particularly on the concrete substructures.

Overall, the author has ranked the bridge as being moderately significant, due to the large size.
The photo above is looking east along the bridge.
